Joshua 10:26
And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening. (Joshua 10:26)
Hanged.
The Hebrew people did not hang men alive on OT times. The victim was first killed and then hanged by way of example, to deter others from similar crimes. But according to the law of Deut. 21:23, the body must not hang overnight lest the land be defiled.
