Water as a flood.

In Ps. 74:13 and Eze. 29:3 a dragon is identified as a water animal, hence, probably the figure of water as a symbol of destruction. Satan sought to destroy the Christian church by the inundation of false doctrines as well as by persecution (cf. on Rev. 17:15).
