Psalm 42:3
My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? (Psalm 42:3)
Tears.
 See Ps. 80:5.
They … say.
David’s enemies taunt him with the bitterest of all taunts, implying that the God whom David trusted was not in the least concerned about his welfare.
Meat.
Heb. lechem, “bread.” “Meat” is an Old English term for food in general. It is of interest to note that where the psalmist speaks of tears as his food, the Ugaritic poet (see pp. 618, 619) speaks of drinking “tears like wine.”
