Proverbs 28:25
He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat. (Proverbs 28:25)
A proud heart.
Literally, “one wide of soul,” that is, of desire, a grasping, avaricious man. One who is puffed up with a sense of his own importance and despises others annoys everyone he meets and causes much dissension (see chs. 15:18; 29:22). The humble, God-fearing man does his duty and trusts that God will provide for his needs. It is equally true that the covetous man arouses much enmity by his self-seeking, whereas the good man is “made fat,” that is, he prospers (see Prov. 11:25; 29:25; Hab. 2:5; James 4:1).
