And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed. (Numbers 22:12)
No human being could reverse the blessing of God and turn it into a curse.
Balaam knew his duty (see on
v. 8). He was greedy for gifts, but also knew his curses could not harm Israel.
