Joshua 24:25
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem. (Joshua 24:25)
Statute.
Derived from a word signifying “to cut,” hence the meaning, “what is cut in,” or, “what is graven.” The word for “ordinance” is more generally translated “judgment.” The engraving may have been on the rock that Joshua set up for a memorial.
