And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people. (Genesis 49:33)
Jacob now lay down, for he had been sitting upright while blessing his sons, and died in peace. Concerning the poetical euphemisms for death, see on chs. 15:15and 25:8. Jacob’s age at death, as given in ch. 47:28, was 147 years.
