“Resting place” would perhaps be better (see also 1 Kings 8:56; Ps. 95:11). The name Noah is derived from the same root. There are many beautiful promises of rest in the OT: rest in God’s presence (Ex. 33:14), rest from sorrow (Isa. 14:3), and deliverance from foes (Isa. 14:5-7).
