For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the Lord did they bestow upon Baalim. (2 Chronicles 24:7)
This item is not found in Kings. It seems that during their father’s reign Ahaziah and his elder brothers had carried out their mother’s designs against the Temple.
Upon Baalim.
It was evidently the purpose of Athaliah to do away with the worship of Jehovah and to substitute in its place the worship of Baal. That a temple for Baal had been built is evident from ch. 23:17.
