1 Samuel 4:7
And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore. (1 Samuel 4:7)
God is come.
The Philistines, who had many gods, clearly recognized the difference between the God of Israel and their gods. Though in v. 7 the word for God is in the plural, ’Elohim, the verb is singular. But in v. 8 the verb is plural—a clear contrast between the true God and the gods in their temple at Ashdod.
