1 Kings 20:12
And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city. (1 Kings 20:12)
Was drinking.
Benhadad received the message while he was at a feast drinking. Orders were given to his subordinates in a single word, śimu, which means “set,” or “form.” Perhaps the Syrian king was too indignant and astonished for more words. He was acting out his utter contempt for the insignificant Hebrew king, and under the influence of drink he had become foolishly reckless. It was a case of “senses gone, courage strong.”
