Cut themselves.
 Self-mutilation, common in Oriental frenzy, was resorted to under the notion that the gods delight in the shedding of blood. Such bloody rites in cases of extreme heathen propitiation were not unusual in OT times (Jer. 16:6, 7), but they were forbidden to God’s people (Lev. 19:28; Deut. 14:1).
