Joshua 24:11
And you went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand. (Joshua 24:11)
Men of Jericho.
Literally, “lords of Jericho.” The seven Canaanitish tribes that follow seem not to be identical with, but rather in addition to, the lords of Jericho. The word for “fought” is the same as the one translated “warred” (v. 9), and must here be considered in a similar sense. The people of Jericho did not fight actively. They confined themselves to defensive operations, which, of course, also, constitute war.
