James 3:18
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. (James 3:18)
Righteousness.
Here represented as producing fruit (see on Matt. 3:8; cf. COL 69.
Fruit.
That is, the product or reward of right conduct (see on Prov. 11:30; Matt. 7:16).
Peace.
A righteous character is developed only by one who makes peace. James obviously compares the results of “envying and strife,” which produce only worthless deeds lsee on v. 16), with the reward of peaceful aims and methods.
Make peace.
Genuine Christians are the conciliators of differences at home and in the church (see on Matt. 5:9). He who sows the seeds of peace enjoys the fruit of peace, partly in this life and fully in the life to come in the kingdom of the “God of peace” 1 Thess. 5:23).
