Revelation 16:6
For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. (Revelation 16:6)
They have shed.
Literally, they have poured out. This doubtless includes the unshed blood of the living saints, who have been marked out for martyrdom (see on chs. 17:6; 18:20). By condemning the people of God to death the wicked have as truly incurred guilt for their blood as if it had already been shed (GC 628; cf. Matt. 23:35).
Saints and prophets.
Thou hast given them.
The plague is stated to be a direct act on the part of God (see on v. 1; cf. GC 36, 37).
They are worthy.
The punishment is precisely appropriate to the crime. The wicked deserve the punishment now meted out to them; it is in no sense an arbitrary act on the part of God (see on v. 1).
