Numbers 11:16
And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee. (Numbers 11:16)
Seventy men.
These elders (see Ex. 24:1, 9) were leading men of various families (Ex. 12:21; cf. 1 Sam. 4:3; 8:4; 2 Sam. 17:15).
Officers.
This is the word used of the Israelite foremen who worked under the Egyptian overseers (Ex. 5:15). The original meaning of the word is “arranger,” “organizer,” “secretary.”
