Leviticus 25:31
But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubile. (Leviticus 25:31)
Houses of the villages.
These were counted as belonging to “the fields,” and could therefore be redeemed at any time, and would return to the original owner in the year of jubilee. The Levites, however, were exempt from this provision. Their property could be redeemed at any time and would in any event revert to the owners in the year of release. The fields in the suburbs of their cities were common property, and could never be sold.
