Perhaps it was by Eleazar the priest that God gave these instructions to Joshua, for when Joshua was ordained to this great trust, God ordained that Eleazar should inquire of the Lord for him. It was at his word that Joshua and all the children of Israel must “go out” and “come in” (Num. 27:21).
