Joshua 14:9
And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the Lord my God. (Joshua 14:9)
Whereon thy feet.
Probably a direct reference to Hebron (see on v. 6).
Moses sware.
See Num. 14:20-24 and Deut. 1:34-36, where this oath is attributed to the Lord. There is no contradiction here. Moses was God’s spokesman, and may have afterward repeated the oath of God, and confirmed it with his own mouth. We today use similar terminology when we say that Isaiah says so and so, when the word actually originated with the Lord.
