Deuteronomy 25:8
Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her; (Deuteronomy 25:8)
The elders.
The “elders” were the responsible city leaders to deal with him. They were no doubt fully acquainted with his circumstances and in a position to secure further information about the case. The “elders,” literally “elderly men,” were held in great respect, and exercised considerable authority.
