Deuteronomy 19:6
Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past. (Deuteronomy 19:6)
The avenger.
From the same word translated “kinsman” (see on Ruth 2:20), and “redeemer” (Job 19:25; Ps. 19:14; 78:35; Isa. 41:14; 43:14; 54:5).
The way is long.
The same concern over the length and inconvenience of the road had been shown by God in relation to duties at the central altar (chs. 12:21; 14:24).
