Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee. (Deuteronomy 16:17)

Give as he is able.
Literally, “according to the gifts of his hand.” Though he should give liberally, according to the blessings received, he should not give to the extent of impoverishing himself and creating hardship for his family.
