Daniel 11:33
And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. (Daniel 11:33)
Many days.
The Hebrew text, the LXX, and Theodotion’s version read simply “days.” There are some Hebrew manuscripts, however, that do contain the word rabbim, “many.” The period referred to is apparently the same as the 1260 days of Dan. 7:25; 12:7 and Rev. 12:6, 14; 13:5; the time during which the power of apostasy most blatantly blasphemed God, exercised its usurped authority, and persecuted those who dissented from its authority (see on Dan. 7:25).
Fall.
During the centuries in which God’s true people were most bitterly persecuted, those fearless enough to stand forth and bear witness to their convictions were made the particular objects of destruction.
Shall instruct many.
Christ’s commission, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations” (Matt. 28:19) is as imperative in times of persecution as it is in periods of peace, and often proves more effective at such times.
