2 Peter 1:6
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; (2 Peter 1:6)
Godliness.
Or, “reverence toward God” (see on v. 3). This quality will prevent the Christian from becoming pharisaical; it will keep him humble and gentle.
Patience.
Gr. hupomonē, literally, a “remaining under,” stressing a brave, steadfast perseverance under adversity (see on Rom. 5:3).
Temperance.
Gr. egkrateia, “self-control” (see on Acts 24:25), which is to predominate in all departments of the believer’s life. The preceding qualities will be of little avail if not accompanied by self-control on the Christian’s part. See on Gal. 5:23.
