The word here translated “burden,”maśśa’, comes from the root naśa’, which means “to lift up.” From the idea of lifting up the voice, maśśa, developed “utterance.”Maśśa’ is frequently used of prophetic utterances (Isa. 15:1; 17:1; etc.) and is twice translated “prophecy” (Prov. 30:1; 31:1).
