And the Lord said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. (1 Kings 8:18)
David’s purpose was good, even though it was not entirely in accord with the will of God. It was God’s will that a temple be built, but because David had been a man of war, it was not the Lord’s wish that David should be the builder (1 Chron. 22:7, 8; 1 Chron. 28:3).
