1 Kings 22:48
Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber. (1 Kings 22:48)
At Ezion-geber.
Ezion-geber was Solomon’s seaport (1 Kings 9:26; 2 Chron. 8:17), in Edomite territory, now ruled by a subject king. A fuller account in 2 Chron. 20:35-37 makes it clear that Ahaziah of Israel was at first joined to Jehoshaphat in this enterprise, but that the alliance was denounced by the prophet Eliezer, with the result that the Lord wrecked the ships at Ezion-geber, where they were built.
