And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. (1 Kings 18:33)
With water.
A perennial spring, which is never known to have failed even in the severest drought, is said to be in the neighborhood of the traditional scene of the sacrifice. By directing that water be poured on the sacrifice and wood, Elijah would preclude all suspicion of fraud.
