Delight in Christ’s Name, January 12
In Thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted. Psalm 89:16. (RRe 14.1)
“The name of the Lord” is “merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, ... forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Of the church of Christ it is written, “This is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness.” This name is put upon every follower of Christ. It is the heritage of the child of God.—Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, 106. (RRe 14.2)
The disciples were to carry their work forward in Christ’s name. Their every word and act was to fasten attention on His name, as possessing that vital power by which sinners may be saved. Their faith was to center in Him who is the source of mercy and power. In His name they were to present their petitions to the Father, and they would receive answer. They were to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Christ’s name was to be their watchword, their badge of distinction, their bond of union, the authority for their course of action, and the source of their success.—The Acts of the Apostles, 28. (RRe 14.3)
“They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of Thy countenance. In Thy name shall they rejoice.” Psalm 89:15, 16. (RRe 14.4)
