Proverbs 15

1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. 19 I
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. 9 I
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. 23 I
4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. 15 I
5 A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. 2 I
6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. 2 I
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. 4 I
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. 11 I
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness. 10 I
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. 3 I
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? 2 I
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise. 2 I
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. 28 I
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. 7 I
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. 10 I
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith. 16 I
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith. 33 I
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife. 11 I
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain. 8 I
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother. 9 I
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly. 2 I
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! 17 I
24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. 9 I
25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. 2 I
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words. 7 I
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. 6 I
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. 9 I
29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. 14 I
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat. 20 I
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. 11 I
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. 9 I
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. 16 I

Proverbs 16

1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord. 17 I
2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. 22 I
3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. 32 I
4 The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. 2 I
5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. 4 I
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. 22 I
7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. 15 I
8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. 9 I
9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. 32 I
10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment. 6 I
11 A just weight and balance are the Lord’s: all the weights of the bag are his work. 16 I
12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness. 7 I
13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right. 3 I
14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it. 2 I
15 In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain. 9 I
16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! 8 I
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. 17 I
18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. 5 I
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. 2 I
20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. 11 I
21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 5 I
22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. 9 I
23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. 2 I
24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. 16 I
25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. 8 I
26 He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him. 2 I
27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. 2 I
28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. 6 I
29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. 2 I
30 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. 28 I
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. 8 I
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord. 4 I

Deuteronomy 20

1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 10 I
2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, 10 I
3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; 10 I
4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. 14 I
5 And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it. 10 I
6 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it. 10 I
7 And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her. 10 I
8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart. 10 I
9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people. 10 I
10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it. 10 I
11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. 10 I
12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it: 10 I
13 And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword: 10 I
14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee. 10 I
15 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations. 10 I
16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: 10 I
17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee: 10 I
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God. 10 I
19 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege: 10 I
20 Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued. 10 I

Amos 4

1 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
2 The Lord God hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks. 4 I
3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the Lord.
4 Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:
5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord God.
6 And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 4 I
7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
9 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 2 I
10 I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 2 I
11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. 13 I
13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name. 8 I

Matthew 2

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 6 I
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 4 I
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 4 I
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. 6 I
22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
