27, Psalm 146; Numbers 32; Joel 1; 1 Timothy 3

Psalm 146

1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul. 6 I
2 While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. 30 I
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. 17 I
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. 13 I
5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: 18 I
6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: 7 I
7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The Lord looseth the prisoners: 15 I
8 The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down: the Lord loveth the righteous: 7 I
9 The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. 12 I
10 The Lord shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord. 16 I

Numbers 32

1 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; 10 I
2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, 10 I
3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 10 I
4 Even the country which the Lord smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle: 10 I
5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan. 10 I
6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? 10 I
7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them? 10 I
8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land. 10 I
9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them. 10 I
10 And the Lord’S anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, 10 I
11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: 12 I
12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord. 10 I
13 And the Lord’S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed. 12 I
14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the Lord toward Israel. 10 I
15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people. 10 I
16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: 10 I
17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 10 I
18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance. 10 I
19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward. 10 I
20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war, 10 I
21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the Lord, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, 10 I
22 And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord. 10 I
23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out. 10 I
24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth. 9 I
25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth. 10 I
26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead: 10 I
27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith. 10 I
28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel: 10 I
29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the Lord, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession: 9 I
30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan. 10 I
31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the Lord hath said unto thy servants, so will we do. 10 I
32 We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be our’s. 10 I
33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about. 10 I
34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, 10 I
35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, 10 I
36 And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep. 9 I
37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, 10 I
38 And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded. 10 I
39 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it. 10 I
40 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein. 10 I
41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair. 10 I
42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name. 10 I

Joel 1

1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. 2 I
2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord’s ministers, mourn.
10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord, 9 I
15 Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 7 I
16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 2 I
17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19 O Lord, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. 4 I
20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

1 Timothy 3

1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 3 I
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 I
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 3 I
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 3 I
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 2 I
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 3 I
9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 5 I
10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 5 I
11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 3 I
13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. 7 I
14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:
15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 2 I
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 6 I
