“모세가 돌이켜 산에서 내려오는데, 증거의 두 판이 그 손에 있”(출 32:15)었다. 이스라엘의 배도로 말미암아 이 두 돌판이 깨어졌을 때, 하나님의 명령으로 모세는 “돌판 두 개를 전의 것과 같이 깎아” 만들었다. 그러고는 “아침에 일찍” 그는 “돌판 두 개를 손에 들고 시내 산에 올라”갔다. 하나님께서는 그 돌판 위에 “전의 돌판들에 있던 말들을” 다시 쓰시기 위하여 자신을 낮추셨다(출 34:1, 2, 4, 모팻).⁹⁾이것은 하나님의 율법을 범한 자들을 향한 그분의 인내와 자비의 놀라운 예증이 아니고 무엇이겠는가?
