 느부갓네살은 미쳤었다. 1975년에 한 점토판 문서가 번역되었는데, 그 내용은 미친 느부갓네 살을 언급하는 듯한 인상을 주고 있다.⁶ 대영 박물관에 비치된 이 점토판은 크게 파손되어 있어서 판독하기 어려운 글자들도 있으며, 행 전체가 마멸된 부분도 있다. 판독 가능한 구절들을 옮겨 보면 “느부갓네살이 생각하였다···” “그의 생명은 무용지물로 보였다∙∙∙” (72.9)

 “그는 아들과 딸에게 사랑을 나타내지 않는다∙∙∙” “가족과 씨족이 존재하지 않는다∙∙∙” “에사길라의 안녕을 증진시키는 데에 관심을 기울이지 않는다∙∙∙” “그는 마르둑 앞에서 심히 울었다.”⁷ (73.1)
