그리스도께서는 “우리 범죄 함을 인하여 내어 줌이 되고, 또한 우리를 의롭다 하심을 위하여 살아나셨”(롬 4:25)듯이, 표상에서 우리는 침례로 그리스도와 함께 물두멍에서 장사되고, 그분에 의하여 새 생명으로 일어나는 것이다. 이 일로 우리는 의롭게 되고, 의롭다고 여겨진다. 그리스도의 의가 우리에게 입혀졌기—우리의 것이라고 선고되었기一때문에, 우리 과거의 죄들은 용서받고, 우리는 죄책감으로부터 완전히 자유하다는 선언이 내려진다. (95.4)

 화목하여지고 완전히 의로워진 우리는 “외인도 아니요 손도 아니요, 오직 성도들과 동일한 시민이요, 하나님의 가족”(엡 2:19, 킹제임스역)이 되었다. 이 새로운 관계로 우리는 새로운 책임을 받아들이게 된다. 하나님께서는 지금 우리에게 “화목하게 하는 사역”을 위임하신다. 그리하여 우리는 다른 사람들이 하나님과 화목하도록 “그리스도를 대신하여” 간구하는 “그리스도를 위한 대사”가 되는 것이다(고후 5:18-20, 신킹제임스역).⁶⁾ 이와 같이 우리의 그리스도인 경험은 처음 시작부터 “하나님과 함께 일하는 일꾼”(고전 3:9, 신킹제임스역)이 되는 것이다.⁷⁾ (95.5)

 1) This is the first step in justification, symbolized in the court of the earthly sanctuary.

 5) Washing at the laver in the Mosaic dispensation corresponds in the Christian dispensation not only to the ordinance of baptism, but to the ordinance of feet washing, as instituted by Christ.
 6) God now commits unto us “the ministry of reconciliation,” and we become “Ambassadors for Christ,” beseeching others “in Christ's stead” (그리스도를 대신하여, 개역판, 킹제임스역) to be reconciled to God.  7) Thus from the very beginning of our Christian experience we are to become “laborers together with God” (하나님의 동역자들, 개역판; 하나님과 함께 일하는 동역자들, 킹제임스역).
