Proverbs 21:4
An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. (Proverbs 21:4)
Plowing.
The ancient versions and a number of Hebrew manuscripts read “lamp.” In the Hebrew the difference is one only of vowels, the word for “plowing” being nir and the one for “lamp” ner. Light is probably used as a symbol of prosperity and joy.
Arrogance, pride, and a selfish joy, which are not founded upon obedience, are all displeasing to God. The word nir actually means “to till for the first time” (see Jer. 4:3; Hosea 10:12).
