Daniel 11:15
So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand. (Daniel 11:15)
Arms.
A symbol of strength (see vs. 22, 31).
The most fenced cities.
Heb. ‘ir mibṣaroth, literally, “a city of fortifications.” The reference is possibly to Gaza, which fell to Antiochus III in 201 B.C., after a considerable siege. Some commentators understand this passage to refer to Sidon, where Antiochus cornered an Egyptian army in this same war, and after a siege forced the Egyptians to surrender.
Mount.
Heb. solelah, “a mound,” that is, “siegeworks.”
King of the north.
Following the parenthetical remarks of v. 14, this verse continues the narrative begun in v. 13 concerning Antiochus’ second campaign in Palestine.
